UNTITLED (in the mood for love) di ILARIA VENTRIGLIA L' imprescindibile legame tra Arte e Vita e la poesia di un quotidiano vissuto in maniera intensa e seducente, sono gli elementi che caratterizzano piu' profondamente il lavoro di Marcello Simeone. Frammenti di vita privata e immaginario collettivo, una sorta di mappa sulla quale sono tracciati i percorsi e focalizzati i segni del nostro tempo. Corpi acerbi e acque viola, fiori evanescenti e stelle imprigionate, borderline tra pubblico e privato, realta' e finzione, un' atmosfera elegante e a tratti inquietante. Ha cominciato a lavorare con la fotografia ma oggi utilizza soprattutto video, disegno, pittura e installazione I suoi lavori sono come delle istantanee, tra lo storyboard di una sceneggiatura (il film della sua vita) e un diario di ricordi. Quando ci siamo conosciuti mi e' venuto a prendere con un furgonato bianco carico di lavori, meta Analix Forever, galleria di Ginevra . Di ritorno dalla Svizzera abbiamo caricato anche un vespone targato NA, era appoggiato alle pareti della galleria come un simbolo: di vissuto, di viaggi, di trascorsi e di passaggi. Marcello Simeone ha 28 anni, e' nato a Napoli e i suoi lavori conservano di Napoli l'immagine internazionale, una citta' con l' anima da grande metropoli. C'e l' immagine da strada e c'e la verita', il suo e' un lavoro basato sull' esperienza personale, tratto giorno per giorno dalla vita e dalla memoria Rappresenta la mia Napoli, quella tosta, "Dirty PoP", romantica, contraddittoria, punk (a suo modo), difficile, lontana dagli stereotipi che la citta' spesso propone. Dee Jay Techno tra i piu' cool della Club Scene partenopea degli anni ' 90, con i Three Imaginary Boys, suo gruppo di allora, ha collaborato e suonato tra gli altri con personaggi del calibro di Paul Dailey dei Leftfield , Darren Emerson degli Underworld e Richie Hawtin. "L' House Music e i suoi rituali hanno profondamente influenzato la mia vita e il mio modo di sentire la contemporaneita', e' stata la voglia di rappresentare cio' che caratterizzava il mio vissuto, la base poi di tutto il mio lavoro. Tutto e' cominciato in uno di quei lunghi week end.." Attualmente vive a Milano dopo aver trascorso parecchio tempo tra Firenze, Londra e soprattutto New York, "dopo Napoli e' la citta' nella quale mi sento piu' a mio agio, ho immediatamente recepito la sua carica, quel misto di malinconia e seduzione che emana". In quel furgone rumoroso abbiamo mangiato, telefonato, parlato, ascoltato il cd di P.J. Harvey, quel pezzo con Thom Yorke, cantante dei Radiohead : "Can you hear them, the elicopters, i'm in New York...", sensazioni di cose incompiute, di perdite, distacchi. La stessa vena malinconica, decadente ma seducente e' presente in tutto il lavoro di Marcello: sopra la patina luccicante, estetizzante, glamour e sotto la strada, con la sua solitudine e la sua alienazione, l' intero lavoro e' un sorriso triste alla vita e alla bellezza, "A Blankness in your smile" era il titolo della sua mostra. Mi ha parlato di cinema, sua grande passione e e ispirazione, di Wong Kar Wai e del suo ultimo film "In The Mood For Love" e di quanto abbia amato la sua attenzione ai particolari, agli indizi, al non detto, la seduzione della sua elegante lentezza e l' attesa, "quel binario di nostalgia sexy che trascina il film". Anche i suoi soggetti sono sempre persone sole, spesso corpi lividi e acerbi, forse contenitori di mali oscuri dell' anima, forse vulnerabili, forse solo ammiccanti. Non c'e' nulla di sfacciato o di eccessivo nella loro ambiguita' se non l' eleganza di essere creature tenere ed intriganti; Attendono qualcosa che forse succedera' o forse no..., probailmente e' gia' successo. UNTITLED (In the Mood for Love) by ILARIA VENTRIGLIA The indispensable link between Art and Life and the poetry of the daily life that is spent in an intense and seductive way are the elements that most profoundly characterize Marcello Simeone's work. Fragments of private life and collective imagery, a sort of map on which our time's paths are tracked and signs are focused. Unripe bodies and violet waters, diaphanous flowers and imprisoned stars, the borderline between public and private, reality and fiction, an elegant and sometimes disturbing atmosphere. He started working with photography, but nowadays he mostly uses video, drawing, painting and installations. His works are like snapshots, something between the storyboard of a screenplay (his life's movie) and a diary of memories. When we got acquainted, he came and picked me up with a white van loaded with works: his destination was Analix Forever, an art gallery in Geneva. Back from Switzerland, we also loaded a scooter with Naples plate: it was leaning against the gallery walls like a symbol of background, travels, past experiences and changes. Marcello Simeone is 28 years old, was born in Naples and his works retain the international image of Naples, a town with the soul of a large city. There is the street image and there is the truth; his work is based on his personal experience, taken from life and memory day after day. He represents my Naples, the strong, "Dirty PoP", romantic, contradictory, punk (in its own style), difficult one, far from the clich?s that the city often presents. Dee Jay Techno, among the coolest ones in the Naples club scene of the 90's, with the Three Imaginary Boys, his band of that period, cooperated and played, among the others, with people like Paul Dailey of the Leftfield, Darren Emerson of the Underworld and Richie Hawtin. "House Music and its rituals have deeply affected my life and my way of feeling contemporary life; it has been the desire of representing all that characterized my background, the basis of my whole work. It all started in one of those long weekends". Presently, he lives in Milan, after spending a long time in Florence, London and above all New York. "After Naples, New York is the city in which I feel most comfortable, I immediately received its charge, that mixture of sadness and seduction emanating from it". It that noisy van, we ate, telephoned, talked, listened to P.J. Harvey's CD, that piece with Thom Yorke, the vocalist of the Radiohead: "Can you hear them, the helicopters, I'm in New York...", feelings of unfinished things, losses, separations. The same melancholic, decadent although seductive mood is present in Marcello's entire work: above, the shiny, aesthetic, glamorous layer, and underneath, the street, with its loneliness and alienation, his whole work is a sad smile to life and beauty: "A Blankness in your smile" was the title of his exhibition. He talked to me of movies, his great love and inspiration, by Wong Kar Wai and his last movie "In The Mood For Love" and his love for the director's great attention to details, signs, the unspoken, the seduction of its elegant slowness and the wait, "the track of sexy nostalgia that drags the movie". Also his subjects are always lonely people, often livid and immature bodies, perhaps containers of vague evils of the soul, perhaps vulnerable, perhaps only alluring. There is nothing shameless or excessive in their ambiguity, except for the elegance of being loving and intriguing creatures; They are waiting for something that maybe will happen, maybe not ..., or probably has already happened. |
