Ubiquity as a paradigm

Centre International d'Accueil et d'Echanges des Recollets, Paris

... of contemporary culture and life. The Dena Foundation for Contemporary Art - in its mission to offer new perspectives and ways of thinking contemporary life - has invited people belonging to various domains of research, from the scientific to the artistic, to give their contribution on a theme evermore crucial: ubiquity. How are technologically advanced societies dealing with the ubiquitous dimension towards which they are headed? What happens to our comprehension and expression when our perception of the world is constantly shifting by the speed with which we experience it?

The Dena Foundation for Contemporary Art - in its mission to offer new perspectives and ways of thinking contemporary life - has invited people belonging to various domains of research, from the scientific to the artistic, to give their contribution on a theme evermore crucial: ubiquity.
How are technologically advanced societies dealing with the ubiquitous dimension towards which they are headed? What happens to our comprehension and expression when our perception of the world is constantly shifting by the speed with which we experience it? In the historical moment in which many seek new utopias or the revival of old ones, could it not be that the utopia of contemporary culture is ubiquity itself?

Participants of the round table:
Franco La Cecla, anthropologist
Fabrice Hybert, artist
Michel Maffesoli, sociologist
Jayant Narlikar, cosmologist
Jérôme Sans, director of The Palais de Tokyo
Hendrik Tratsaert, chief editor of Janus Magazine

From the Centre International d'Accueil et d'Echanges des Récollets: Nicoletta Agostini, Botto e Bruno, Dafni & Papadatos, Ghazel, Amal Saade, Claude Théoret; from La Seine at ENSBA: Adriana Garcia Galan, Emmanuelle Rapin, Nicolas Richard, Donatella Spaziani; from Pavillon of Palais de Tokyo: Davide Bertocchi, Agnieszka Kurant, Shiho Fukuhara.

Ubiquitous participants at the round table:
Maria Thereza Alves, artist; Jimmie Durham, artist; Michel Lasserre, artist; Hans Ulrich Obrist, curator, Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris; Paola Pivi, artist; Daniel Soutif, director, Museo d'arte contemporanea Centro Luigi Pecci, Prato, Italy; Paula Yacoub, artist.

The discussion is coordinated by Chiara Agnello, Chiara Parisi and Nicola Setari.

Video and sound material of the event will be collected by Chiara Agnello and Mélanie Scarciglia for a documentary produced by Dena Foundation for Contemporary Art: it will be presented in the context of an event organized in collaboration with Settore Sport e Giovani of the Town of Milan at the Fabbrica del Vapore and Centre Culturel Français de Milan in 2005.
