Skyspace Viewings

The Mattress Factory, Pittsburgh

Skyspace Viewings. On September 14 the museum is hosting the popular sunrise and sunset Skyspace viewing. The Mattress Factory's Skyspace, Unseen Blue, is an outdoor piece built for viewing the sky and atmospheric changes. The Skyspace is a 20x23x23 corrugated steel-clad structure, with a knife-edge aperture in the ceiling and mahogany seating for 30 people.

- Skyspace Viewings/September 14 On September 14 the museum is hosting the popular sunrise and sunset Skyspace viewing.

In order for visitors to enjoy one of the installation pieces in the James Turrell: Into the Light exhibition during its most dramatic times, sunrise and sunset, the Mattress Factory will once again open early and keep the lights on late on September 14, 2002.

The Mattress Factory's Skyspace, Unseen Blue, is an outdoor piece built for viewing the sky and atmospheric changes. The Skyspace is a 20x23x23 corrugated steel-clad structure, with a knife-edge aperture in the ceiling and mahogany seating for 30 people.

Saturday, September 14, 2002
Sunrise viewing: 6 a.m. - 7:30 a.m.
Sunset viewing: 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

No advance registration is required. Cost is suggested museum admission ($6.00 Adults; $4.00 Students/Seniors; free for members and children under 12). Skyspace is the only artwork that visitors can access during the extended hours. However, "admit one" passes will be distributed for a visit to the full exhibition.

The museum will host special events and programs in the Skyspace during the length of the exhibition, on view through April 30, 2003. To schedule a rental event in the Skyspace please call the museum at 412-231-3169 for further details.

The Mattress Factory is a research and development lab for artists that commissions new site-specific works in a wholly supportive environment for artists. Located on Pittsburgh's North Side since 1977, the Mattress Factory is hailed as the best facility for installation art in the United States. Kids are always free, and Thursdays are free to adults.
