The fourth Berlin edition of the European Month of Photography (MdF) takes the breathtaking developments in the visual media world as an opportunity to question the role of photography in the modernization of our society. With the title 'Modern Life, New Images', more than 100 institutions across Berlin and Potsdam will be participating in the 4th MdF with exciting photographic exhibitions, events, symposia and workshops.

Berlin to host the European Month of
Photography for the 4th time
This fall for 6 weeks Berlin turns into a capital of photography
putting on show over 150 exhibitions throughout the city, presenting
500 international photographers and more than 10.000 images.
The fourth Berlin edition of the European Month of Photography (MdF) takes the
breathtaking developments in the visual media world as an opportunity to question the
role of photography in the modernization of our society
With the title “Modern Life, New Images”, more than 100 institutions across Berlin
and Potsdam will be participating in the 4th MdF with exciting photographic
exhibitions. The Month of Photography offers a platform to the international
photography scene and the public focussing on exhibitions, events, symposia and
workshops.
A number of exhibitions will be presented following the big opening on October 14 in
the Berlinische Galerie with, amongst others the photography project “Mutations III”
The Martin Gropius Bau hosts an extensive retrospective of László Moholy-Nagy, the
Willy Brandt Haus together with the Institut Français, will celebrate the 100th birthday
of the legendary Parisian photographer Izis. The pioneer of street photography Garry
Winogrand, has an exhibition dedicated to him at Camera Work. Peter Lindbergh can
be admired at C/O Berlin and Galerie Kicken will show works by Ed van der Elsken
and Barbara Klemm. The spectrum of photography in this year’s Month of
Photography Berlin ranges from microphotography to the mobile phone camera.
The focus of all exhibitions lies on photographic positions from an international point
of view capturing metropolitan ways of life from the 19th to the 21st Century and
offering new perspectives on cities and modern life.
This year’s MdF is divided in five main blocks:
Metropolitan lifestyle(s)
Fashion photography
Photography and science
New pictorial worlds and techniques
Education – Training - Competitions
In addition, the category “Guests & co-opted” combines further photographic
exhibitions and projects displayed in Berlin.
The 4th MdF Berlin 2010 will be opened on October 14 at 7pm in the Berlinische
Galerie. The MdF Berlin is being organised by Kulturprojekte Berlin GmbH.
