Emerging artists, architects and researchers are invited to come together in the remote foothills of the Cascade Mountains of Washington State for two weeks to take part in the formulation of an international, discursive platform through a series of seminars, performances, workshops, lectures and exhibition proposals as well as involvement with the local community. During their stay in Mazama, the participants will penetrate this unique and suggestive land, letting their circumstances merge as they develop transdisciplinary initiatives through dialogue and collaboration.
The participants will work independently – developing personal projects conceptualized on their experience in Mazama – while acting in a system of networked relations, in a field not defined by spatial boundaries but by the interconnected operations between them. Since the structure of a field is horizontal with no center, the participants will be encouraged to balance its moving, diffuse nature by determining a common, stable and iconic point in the landscape; a conceptual landmark to serve as a central meeting point for [future] work, discussions and exchange.
Local, regional and international professionals in the fields of art and architecture are invited to meet the participants and learn about their activities and research. A public discussion series, Contemporary Methow: Mixing the fields of contemporary art and architecture and an exhibition will be held during the residency. The public discussion features regional guests: Lead Pencil Studio, Johnston Architects, PLLC, Balance Associates and the UW School of Built Environment.
/2011 participants are: Danilo Correale, Adelita Husni-Bey, Fabian Jaggi, Raneen Nosh, Paolo Patelli, Luca Pozzi, Eddie Spanier, Ian Tweedy, Giuditta Vendrame.
