Two exhibitions

Centre international d'art et du paysage, Ile de Vassiviere

Alexander Ponomarev's submarine SubTiziano joins the collection of the wood of sculptures of the Centre. Ponomarev chose to display his most emblematic work in the waters of the lake of Vassiviere; the machine, usually stealth in it's military purpose, becomes suddenly the host of an artistic intervention, hinged with provocation and humour. The bookshop of the Art Centre welcomes Davide Bertocchi's Top100 whose interface was created by Samon Takahashi and realized by Clement Lyonnet. For this project, Bertocchi asked 500 personalities of the international art scene what was their favorite song. Each 100 selected songs are constituting the largest and most versatile of music compilation.

Wood of sculptures

Alexander Ponomarev. SubTiziano

Alexander Ponomarev’s submarine SubTiziano joins the collection of the wood of sculptures of the Centre international d’art et du paysage de l’île de Vassivière, the inauguration takes part of the celebration of the twenty years anniversary of the Art Center.

Born in 1957 in Dniepropetrovsk, Russia, Alexander Ponomarev worked many years in the Russian navy before fully commit to art. His works were displayed notably in Moscow Biennial in 2005 and 2007 and Venice Biennial in 2007 and made him one of the most famous artists in the russian contemporary art scene.

After the Grand Canal in Venise in 2009, Alexander Ponomarev chose to display his most emblematic work SubTiziano in the waters of the lake of Vassivière.

The machine, usually stealth in it’s military purpose, becomes suddenly the host of an artistic intervention, hinged with provocation and humour. Painted by the artist, the turret of the submarine appears on the shore playing music, spraying water, operating its periscopes. Emerging from the water it can be seen from the island of Vassivière and becomes part of the wood of sculptures now extended into the lake.
