The Nascent Knowledge
Annual Exhibition 2011
Exhibition in the Great Hall

While selecting the works, I followed the inclination to make the inhomogeneity of the submissions – which is necessary to an annual exhibition – the central point, but to incorporate this heterogeneity on a common level: that of the everyday. Thus the exhibit revolves around the anecdotal, the agreement, the inconspicuous, around esthetic forms that invoke an entire world, like a set table, a print, two sound performances, an object, embroidery, three still lifes, a wagon, two rods, a bottle, two photographs, a shirt.

Wallpaper
Exhibition in the Cabinet

Parallel to the annual exhibition, the 2010 fellowship award winner, Marianne Lang, is showing her work.

In a life-sized drawing Marianne Lang shows a room in her parents’ house, which she addresses in a video installation parallel to this. While she fills the paper with subtle geometry and texture, the filmed image develops a surreal life of its own just as the background dissolves into nothingness and the view out the window belies our perception. The room turns out to be a staged cardboard model.

Marianne Lang, born 1979 in Graz, lives and works in Vienna
