Curtain Callers

MAP: Magasinsgatan 3, Goteborg

A collaboration between artist Ann-Sofi Siden and composer Jonathan Bepler. The project is examining the contemporary institutional theatre from within. By focusing at the very core of fiction building and its ongoing processes, the work traces the fleeting moment of release in the rehearsed ritual between the audience and the stage.

comunicato stampa

MAP opens the celebrated exhibition Curtain Callers in Gothenburg. Curtain Callers is a new commission with distinguished Swedish artist Ann-Sofi Sidén and the renowned American composer Jonathan Bepler. The project is examining the contemporary institutional theatre from within. By focusing at the very core of fiction building and its ongoing processes, the work traces the fleeting moment of release in the rehearsed ritual between the audience and the stage.

Curtain Callers is a superb collaboration between artist Ann-Sofi Sidén and composer Jonathan Bepler, with sounds and images recorded behind the scenes at the Royal Dramatic Theatre. Stunning and beautiful.

A collaboration with Göteborg International Film Festival

In Gothenburg, MAP are delighted to be able to show the work in collaboration with Göteborg International Film Festival. The arrangement is part of an ongoing collaboration between Göteborg International Film Festival and Mobile Art Production, where the ambition is to highlight interesting connections between art and film and to make these areas more accessible to our audience.

The project is presented as a film Curtain Callers and a multi-channel video installation Curtain Callers (entracte). Both works are produced by MAP, Mobile Art Production, and have been recorded at The Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm.

Curtain Callers was shown in Stockholm in the end of 2011.

In March 2012, Curtain Callers (The Book) will be published by the newly established publishing house Art & Theory. The book is designed by Stefania Malmsten and includes texts by Jörg Heisser, Ann-Sofi Sidén and an interview with the artists by Magdalena Malm.

Since the 1990s, she has participated in several major international group exhibitions and her films have been screened at film festivals. She has held solo exhibitions at prominent museums and galleries in, among others, Vienna, Paris and London.

JONATHAN BEPLER is a composer who has received wide attention for his collaboration with Matthew Barney in the major film productions Cremaster 2, 3 and 5. He also composes music for film, theatre and dance. He has directed and acted in several operas as well as designed computer-controlled sound installations.

MAP, Mobile Art Production - is a new art producer that invites artists to create unique projects. In dialogue with the artists, MAP locates the most suitable situation, moment, and place to produce and exhibit contemporary art.
MAP works with specific projects, and provides the opportunity to experiment and time to develop new ideas. The productions can include any material or media; from sound and film to more traditional expressions. MAP’s goal is to find contemporary forms to present contemporary art.
