Luke Fowler / Richard Long

The Hepworth Wakefield, Wakefield

Based on research and material from archives in the North of England, the film will focus on the work of the radical socialists Edward Palmer-Thompson, Raymond Williams and Richard Hoggart whose influential writing were honed in northern working class communities. Richard Long's exhibition consists of works from Artist rooms. Work by Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore will be displayed alongside that of Long, continuing the theme of the rural landscape.

ARTIST ROOMS: Richard Long

Richard Long is one of Britain’s most significant artists. He made his international reputation during the 1970s with sculptures made as the result of epic walks to remote parts of the world. Whether as photographs, text-based works describing sights and sounds, or installations bringing nature into the gallery, many will be familiar with Long’s work.

The exhibition consists of works from ARTIST ROOMS, gifted from the collection of Anthony d’Offay, loans from other national collections as well as a new commission inspired by Wakefield’s location on the banks of the River Calder. Work by Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore will be displayed alongside that of Long, continuing the theme of the rural landscape.

ARTIST ROOMS On Tour is an inspired partnership with the Art Fund, the fundraising charity for works of art, making available the ARTIST ROOMS collection of international contemporary art to galleries throughout the UK. ARTIST ROOMS is jointly owned by Tate and National Galleries of Scotland and was established through The d’Offay Donation in 2008, with the assistance of the National Heritage Memorial Fund, the Art Fund and the Scottish and British Governments. ARTIST ROOMS On Tour with the Art Fund has been devised to enable this collection to reach and inspire new audiences across the country, particularly young people.
