Piero Dorazio (Roma, 1927) used to visit the studios of painters of his city since his early youth. After WWII he finished his studies of architecture in the Universities of Roma and Paris. His first exhibitions began in the 40's and consisted of canvases and drawings with references to Futurism, a movement that interests him specially because of its lines of force.
Altogether with Perilli, Accardi, Attardi Consagra, Guerrini, Sanfilippo and Turcato starts the grup 'Forma 1', wich was against socialist realism political believes, defending abstract art and promoting an italian's art renovation.
In the beginning of the 50's Dorazio starts scattering geometrical forms on his canvases, with some order, but at the same time somehow disordered and with a kind of dynamism marked by very simple signs, lights and colours. By the end of the decade colour becomes the main element in his search of space. He moves to America, where he will live until 1970, teaching at the Fine Arts Faculty of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. After travelling all over de world, in 1974 he moves to Todi (Perugia).
His works have been exhibited in Osaka, Bolonia, Milan, Paris, Frankfurt, etc. He participated in the Venice Bienale in 1952, 1960, 1966 and 1988. In the past few years there have been several retrospectives of his works in Geneva and Bolonia in 1991, Athens in 1994, Milan in 1998 and Rome in 1999.
