Tahrir, place de la Liberation

Kadist Art Foundation, Paris

Screening of the film (2011) in the presence of director Stefano Savona

sintesi del comunicato stampa

Screening in the presence of director Stefano Savona as well as Jean- Michel Frodon and Rossella Biscotti. In 2011, filmmaker Stefano Savona plunges into the heart of the Egyptian Revolution and releases Tahrir, place de la Liberation, a film that follows the events of January and February, until the fall of President Hosni Mubarak. Savona, who had spent 18 days among the crowd of protesters in Tahrir Square, recorded these images with a high definition photographic camera. His film remains a true witness of the overwhelming power of collective action. Stefano Savona was born in Palermo in 1969. He studied archeology and took part in several archaeological missions in Sudan, Egypt, Turkey and Israel. From 1995, he worked as a freelance photographer. His interest in political struggles allowed him to start a career as documentary filmmaker creating documentaries about the struggle of the Kurds (Carnets d'un combattant kurde, 2006), the Gaza Strip under attack by Israeli bombs (Piombo Fuso, 2009) or the occupation of the City Council of Palermo, his hometown, by eighteen homeless families (Palazzo delle Aquile, 2011). This film won the Grand Prix du Cinema du Reel, 2011 and the price of the human rights festival in Buenos Aires. Jean-Michel Frodon is Associate Professor at Sciences Po, Paris, journalist and film critic. This event is part of "This is a special blackout edition!", an exhibition with works drawn from the Kadist collection, co-curated with the artist Rossella Biscotti.
