The world renowned Italian artist Marco Nereo Rotelli, best known for his stunning light installations at landmarks across Europe (Petit Palais in Paris, Venice Biennale) and the Beijing Olympics, will illuminate the façade of Northwestern University’s historic Deering Library.

Mr. Rotelli, who is currently the Artist in Residence at Northwestern’s Kaplan Institute for the Humanities, will exhibit his work in a two-part program on Tuesday, March 12.

Open Studio Exhibition - 5:00-5:45 PM, Kaplan Artist in Residence Studio, Kresge 1-410
Join us for a multi-media overview of Rotelli’s work: including highlights from his "Videolanguage" series; "Diary," a pictorial diary dedicated to the light off Lake Michigan; and “Enigma,” the blueprints for Rotelli’s upcoming light installation on Chicago’s Field Museum.

Light Installation and Reading - 6:00-7:00 PM Charles Deering Library
The façade of the historic Deering Library will be transformed into a page of luminous poetry, projecting the work of seven Chicago poets; inside the library, the featured poets will read their work, accompanied by a musical score.

Participating Chicago Poets: Ana Castillo, Reginald Gibbons, Arica Hilton, Parneshia Jones, Elise Paschen, Ed Roberson, Jennifer Scapettone, and Rachel Webster; curated by Arica Hilton.

All events are free and open to the public—events take place on the Evanston Campus of Northwestern University.
These events are part of 2013 – Year of Italian Culture in the United States, an initiave held under the auspices of the President of the Italian Republic, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Italy with the support of the Corporate Ambassadors Intesa SanPaolo and Eni.

The Kaplan Institute’s Artist in Residence Program brings innovative artists working in diverse media to campus for quarter-long residencies to facilitate the production of new work, give the Northwestern community insight into the process of production, and recognize the importance of the fine arts to the humanities.

Marco Nereo Rotelli’s residence is co-sponsored by the Global Languages Initiative, Residential Colleges, and the Northwestern Library.
