Balance of Power enlists the help of 4 artists to explore the relationship of political and social power to the individual using visual metaphor and dark humor
Balance of Power enlists the help of 4 artists to explore the relationship of political and social power to the individual using visual metaphor and dark humor. Featuring: Shaun Gladwell and David Griggs (Sydney, Australia), Martin Delabano (Dallas, Texas) and Kerry Skarbakka (Chicago, Illinois)
Gladwell and Griggs use video to explore a subversive attack on corporate and institutional structures via the act of skateboarding.
Delabano uses sculpture to examine the isolation of the individual.
Skarbakka utilizes photography to highlight the uncertainty of our relationships towards power and our utopian dreams.
International Artist in Residence Program: Jo Bruton and Katie Pratt, (both from London, England) will present the work produced during their stay as International Artists in Residence at Raid
Projects. Both artists have successful careers in London and are beginning to establish themselves in the international arena. Their work will also be available for viewing at Kontainer Gallery on Wilshire Blvd.
Opening reception; Saturday 6 September, 7-10pm
An after-party event - "The Lounge" - will be held at Barbara's Bar, at the Brewery following this opening and will feature classic soul, r&b, funk and northern until 2am.
Gallery hours are Saturdays 12noon - 5pm, or by appointment.
