comunicato stampa

In collaboration with the Stadtgalerie Bern, the project room for contemporary art of the Museum of Fine Arts Bern and the Verein für Originalgrafik (association for original prints), we are presenting our next exhibition ORIGINALLY BERN. The connecting theme of the Stadtgalerie and the project room for contemporary art is gravure printing – within this context we are showing originals of some of the participating artist.

The result is a fascinating and versatile dialogue between techniques and contents. Reto Camenisch knows remarkably well how to scent the nature of a landscape and to capture it in unmistakable pictures. Be it in his homeland, the Bernese Oberland, or on all other continents, he always focuses on landscape – familiar, but at the same time lost in reverie and timeless. By inventing an entire universe with a few lines, Raffaella Chiara baffles the viewer with her drawings over and over again. She succeeds in visualizing wonderful thoughts with pencil and crayon lines or installations of drawings on walls. At times unreal, at times powerfully arranged, Kotscha Reist’s paintings are opening up a cosmos between current events and history.

Landscape and interiors are on the same level as figurative works or still lives. Francisco Sierra’s oeuvre consists of photorealistic paintings as well as absurd, surreal compositions, which seem to be almost childish-naïve, but at the same time are applied onto paper or canvas with incomparable proficiency. All of his works have a refreshing irony in common, with which the artist crawls through his own, artistic universe. Dominik Stauch’s often applied, consistent reduction to basic geometric shapes can be seen in the exhibited medium format pictures painted on the back of glass. In these paintings, he picks as his central theme one motif, for example a star, and varies it with fine, impasto colors.
