Antony Gormley

Middelheim Museum, Antwerp

The oeuvre of Antony Gormley (1950, United Kingdom) can be viewed in prestigious galleries and museums all around the world. Gormley becomes the second guest artist to display works in the newly renovated Middelheim Museum. From 24 February until 5 May 2013, a series of his 'polyhedra' sculptures that have never previously been exhibited in this constellation will be on show in Het Huis (The House) on the 'Hortiflora'. In 2012 the Middelheim Museum received the gift of a major work, Firmament III (2009), which was placed in a unique location in the oldest section of the Middelheim Museum. Firmament III (2009) is an irregular three dimensional net surrounding a human-shaped void approximately ten times life-size. At the open-air museum this work will pick up the light of the changing seasons and be a constant invitation to the visitor to consider his or her place in the order of things.
