Katharina Sieverding

Museum Schloss Moyland, Bedburg-Hau

Worldline 1968-2013. The exhibition is composed of various multimedia projections and photographic works creating a comprehensive installation. With her vision of an extension of the physical space-time dimension into mental space Sieverding reveals her debt to Joseph Beuys, whose Master student she was in the 1960s.

comunicato stampa

Katharina Sieverding is one of the most prominent artistic personalities in contemporary art internationally. The medium of her art practice is experimental photography and its multimedia transformations.

Katharina Sieverding has developed an exhibition especially for the Museum Schloss Moyland, composed of various multimedia projections and photographic works creating a comprehensive installation. The heart of the exhibition is devoted to the most recent work DIE SONNE UM MITTERNACHT SCHAUEN (LOOKING AT THE SUN AT MIDNIGHT). For this piece, Katharina Sieverding is continually downloading about 100,000 visual information data from NASA
during the period from May 2010 until June 2013 and artistically condensing these to form a dynamic picture of the surface of the sun.

The term WORLDLINE, drawn from relativity theory, characterizes the core of her art practice, which has as its focus central questions about human existence. A critical engagement with scientific and rational thought, as well as its reinterpretations in a mythical idiom, plays equally important roles. With her vision of an extension of the physical space-time dimension into mental space Katharina Sieverding reveals her debt to Joseph Beuys, whose Master student she was in the 1960s.

The exhibition is supported by the Kunststiftung NRW, Düsseldorf, and RWE, Essen.
