Eleventh edition. First staged in 2003, the London Design Festival is one of the world's most important annual design events. The Festival programme is made up of over 300 events and exhibitions staged by hundreds of partner organisations across the design spectrum and from around the world.
The London Design Festival continues its collaboration with the world’s
leading Museum of art and design, the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A)
which in 2012, saw audiences reach 111,538 for the 10 day period of the
Festival - one of the busiest weeks recorded in the Museum’s history.
As the central hub location for the London Design Festival for the fifth year,
the V&A will again house a broad range of commissioned activity which
will be spread throughout the Museum and include installations, events,
talks and workshops. Highlights include an impressive eight-storey lighting
installation in the main entrance by Canadian designer Omer Arbel and a
trail of Swarovski lenses focussed on the design details of objects across
the V&A’s collections. Alessi will provide an insight into their production
processes with a display which examines the making skills of its factory in
Crusinallo. Dutch Designers Scholten and Baijings have taken a theatrical
approach to design with their installation ‘The Dinner Party’ which will be
installed in the opulent Norfolk House Music Room.
