The first annual San Francisco Photographic Print Exposition will be held at the Herbst Pavilion, Fort Mason Center.

60 galleries and private dealers from the U.S., Germany and the Czech Republic will present the finest photographic art dating from 19th century to the most cutting edge contemporary photography.

Collectors, curators, and photographers will have an extraordinary opportunity to view thousands of images. The fair is organized by Stephen Cohen, organizer of photo l.a., The Los Angeles Photographic Print Exposition which celebrated its ninth year in January with over 6,000 attendees.

Works by Ansel Adams, Diane Arbus, Eugene Atget, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Imogen Cunningham, Edward S. Curtis, Michael Kenna, Andre Kertesz, Robert Mapplethorpe, Man Ray, Sebastian Salgado, Josef Sudek, Weegee, Edward Weston and many others will be exhibited for sale.

W.M. Hunt collector, curator and director of the Ricco/Maresca Gallery, will lead a panel discussion, "Introductions: The Best and Brightest of Bay Area Photographers", Saturday, July 29th at 10 am. Panelists include: Doug Nickel (SF MoMA), Marni Gillette (SF Camerawork), and Deborah Klochko (Friends of Photography).

A.D. Coleman, author and critic, will lecture on, "Your Photo Opportunity Here: A Traveler's guide to Mundo Fotografico", Saturday, July 29th at 1pm.

Michael Kenna, noted landscape photographer, will lecture Saturday, July 29th at 4 pm.

On-site collecting seminars will be held at 10am Friday, Saturday and Sunday with Dale Stulz, curator and consultant, W.M. Hunt and A.D. Coleman.

A preview reception will be held Thursday, July 27 from 6-9pm for the benefit of The SoMa Partnership, a nonprofit organization that offers pre-employment training for qualified homeless residents who are recovering from alcoholism or drug dependency. photo san francisco, the first San Francisco Photographic Print Fair will host a lecture by noted author and critic on photography, A.D. Coleman.

Photography enters the 21st century firmly established as the defining visual medium of the 20th century. It steps into the new Millennium as the core technology of all contemporary visual communication systems. Broadly defined, creative photography - fine-art and documentary photography and photojournalism, fashion and editorial photography, and photo-based art - has become a world in itself, which media critic A. D. Coleman has dubbed "Mundo Fotografico."

Coleman has observed the emergence of this now globalized environment since it began to develop more than three decades ago. In this slide-illustrated lecture, he will serve as a knowledgeable guide to this new context for photography, offering both the newcomer to the photo scene and the more experienced looker at pictures useful strategies for thinking about and utilizing the opportunities that the "international image community" makes available. Whether you're a collector, a photographer, a photography teacher or student, a picture professional, or a member of the medium's steadily growing audience, you'll find this practical and insightful presentation an enjoyable and illuminating introduction to the highways and byways of "Mundo Fotografico."

A.D. Coleman's lecture will take place on Saturday, July 29th at 1 pm in the Golden Gate room, Landmark Building at Ft. Mason Center.

A.D. Coleman, photography critic and lecturer, has published numerous books including, The Grotesque in Photography, Light Readings, Critical Focus, Tarnished Silver, Depth of Field and The Digital Evolution. His internationally syndicated columns and essays have appeared in ARTnews, Art in America, Art Forum, The New York Times and The Village Voice. He was a guest scholar at the J. Paul Getty Museum in 1993, a Fulbright senior Scholar in Sweden, and the Ansel and Virginia Adams Scholar-in-Residence in 1997. He is currently the executive director of Nearby Cafe, a multi-subject electronic magazine. His on- site seminar will be on Saturday, July 29th at 10am.

W.M. Hunt is the Director of Ricco/Maresca Gallery in New York City. He is a champion of photography: collector, curator and consultant. He is a teacher at the School of Visual Arts and frequent lecturer on collecting. For Photo District News, he organizes and moderates the Your Picture series of seminars at the PhotoPlus Expos. He is on the Advisory Board for the Center for Photography at Woodstock and APERTURE, and he is the former Chairman of Photographers+Friends United Against AIDS.

He will host the panel, "Introductions: The Best & Brightest of Bay Area Photographers" on Saturday, July 29th at 10am. His on- site seminar will be on Sunday, July 30th at 10am.

Dale Stulz, is one of the leading experts on photography and art. As a consultant, curator and appraiser he counts major collectors and institutions as his clients. His on- site seminar will be on Friday, July 28th at 10am.

Michael Kenna, is a noted landscape photographer and author of many books on photography including: Le Notre's Gardens, Nightwalk, The Rouge, and A Twenty Year Retrospective. His work has been exhibited internationally and is in numerous private and public collections. His lecture will be on Saturday, July 29th at 4pm.
