Our House Is on Fire. A selection of Shirin Neshat for its new One-to-One artist initiative that supports contemporary artists as they create artwork in the service of advancing human rights, cultural understanding, and international peacekeeping. Twenty-three new works will be exhibited at the Rauschenberg Foundation Project space, and two limited-edition prints will be sold through Artspace with proceeds to benefit an independent organization working to strengthen and protect basic rights and freedoms in Egypt. As a reflection on the aftermath of the failed revolution in Egypt, Neshat conceived of a new series of photographs and prepared to travel to Cairo. Inspired by the profound sense of loss in a country rife with unrest, she used this new project to investigate the universal experience of pain and mourning on both a personal and national level. Opening reception: January 30, 6-8pm.
