Photographic coordinates Lithuania sixties unique. Being in the latitudes of the Soviet ideology, it was quite far from the center to soak up the pan-European photographic trends make successful attempts at dialogue with the international photographic community. Many authors had access to the western media and the ability to send their work to international competitions and exhibitions. Lithuania deservedly called "photographic republic": in 1969 there were organizova but the first official single and for many years in the Soviet Union Society of Photographers. In the same year in the Central House of Journalists in Moscow showed the legendary exhibition "9 Lithuanian photographers," which became a defining event in the formation of the school.

Work by Lithuanian authors differed free approach to the choice of artistic techniques (sharp angles, close-ups, hard graphic quality, broad optics) and, at the same time, a strong national aesthetics and themes. This is an amazing side by side with the original style of each author. And everyone staying within their style or genre, was a conductor and visually embodied «genius loci» (Latin genius loci), was the curator of a special spirit, inherent only in Lithuanian soil and Lithuanian culture. In contrast to the Soviet reportage photographs in Lithuanian authors never had aggrandizement "hero", deliberate magnificence of life, but only its natural, sincere side and the desire to show the community and the integrity of the Lithuanian people.

Genius loci capable of manifesting itself in a thousand different images: filled in beauty and purity "Colors of Flowers" R. Dihavichyusa, unique in the clouds above a suburb of Vilnius A. Kunčius, sincere spiritual life hinterland, embodied in a series of "Pilgrimage / Rural holidays" P . Pozerskis in carefree summer "beach" A. Macijauskas. Spirit of the place - in the piercing gaze of the children from the "People of Lithuania" A. Sutkus and almost pictorial acts A. Mezhanskasa where female beauty is dissolved in the beauty of the forest, in the poetic "Blooming" R. Rakauskas in minimalist dunes A. Zavadskis and mystical forest landscapes J. Kalvyalisa. In a very personal, existential, photos V. Sontea and optimistic fotocherkah M. Baranauskas, genre sketches and aesthetically Augnusa R. V. Butyrina collages. Finally, in the famous B. Luckus penetrating portraits. They certainly read place. Place matters. This is not just a geographical or national marker, but the key is to unite different authors positions, statements either openly or deep between the lines.

White Hall Center of Photography will feature works Vaclovas Straukasa, which in November 2013 celebrated its 90th anniversary. Creativity of this lyrical realist pictures inextricably linked with native coastal Klaipeda and its people. The exhibition, which was developed jointly with Anatansom Sutkus, will sign three cycles, each of which refers to a particular period in the author's life: childhood ("Dune"), youth ("Young Klaipeda") and mature age, time work as a teacher of literature ( "Last Call").
