The Other Art Fair

Ambika P3, London

The sixth edition features work by 100 of the best, unrepresented artists coupled with a dynamic program of talks, workshops and events.

comunicato stampa

The Other Art Fair, the UK’s leading artist-led fair, is delighted to announce details of its sixth edition in spring 2014. The fair will take place between 24th and 27th April 2014 at Ambika P3 in Marylebone and will feature work by 100 of the best, unrepresented artists coupled with a dynamic program of talks, workshops and events.

Amongst a growing number London art fairs, The Other Art Fair offers a unique but inclusive experience which appeals to both art aficionados and novices. It allows visitors to interact directly with the artists, learning about their practice, the meaning of a work and even bartering. The growing number of artist applications as well as visitors with each edition is testament to the success of the formula. The fair provides artists with a platform not only to sell their work but also to forge connections with creative professionals and find inspiration or collaborations with other artists.

The forthcoming edition of the fair follows on from the unprecedented success achieved at the fair’s fifth inauguration in October 2013. Taking place for the first time during Frieze Week, The Other Art Fair attracted over 12,000 visitors with 3,500 attending on the opening night alone. Marking a significant departure for the fair, it also moved to East London’s primary destination for creative events, The Old Truman Brewery, sharing the space with Moniker Art Fair. Together, The Other Art Fair and Moniker Art Fair, created one of the most successful satellite events of London’s art week.

The fair’s unique premise earnt it praise for standing out amongst the many art events that coincided with Frieze. The Evening Standard commented: “the nice thing is you get to deal directly with the artists rather than the middle men” whilst Arts London News wrote: “It was not just The Other Art Fair, it was the other art experience of being in an intimate community… In the shadow of Frieze Week, the hundred odd unrepresented artists showed the London art scene how it is done.”

In addition to the positive reception from the media, the fair also had great interest from some of London’s leading contemporary art galleries, with attendance by representatives from Lisson, Blain|Southern, Christies, National Print Gallery, Alan Cristea, Frith Street Gallery, and Lazarides to name a few.

As well as the artworks on display, The Other Art Fair also offers a selection of talks, workshops and events for visitors of all ages and interests.

Lectures

Partnering with Trudie Stephenson from The Art Insider, The Other Art Fair will host a series of lectures specifically designed to support emerging artists. Each will feature discussion between industry experts and will cover topics such as entrepreneurial approaches to the art world.

Mentor Programme: An initiative that supports exhibiting artists and budding curators, the mentor programme is a platform for MA curatorial graduates from The Courtauld Institute of Art and Sotheby’s Institute of Art to give one-to-one support to artists, advising them on pricing, self-representation and stand organisation.

Online Shop: New to the fair with this edition, every participating artist will be given a profile on The Other Art Fair’s online shop, allowing them to continue selling their work through the platform for the entire year.

The Other Art Fair
At the inaugural launch in November 2011, the fair showcased the work of 80 of the UK’s best unrepresented artists. Hosted at the Bargehouse on the South Bank, it was a great success, attracting 4,300 visitors over three days. Since then the fair has continued to grow with each instalment, and all three spring editions have been held at Ambika P3 in Marylebone. In autumn 2013, The Other Art Fair was timed to coincide with Frieze week, sharing The Old Truman Brewery with Moniker Art Fair. Becoming one of the largest satellite attractions of London’s art week, there were over 12,000 visitors to The Other Art Fair with sales increasing by 17% since the previous edition.
