Beating around the bush

Bonnefanten Museum, Maastricht

This exhibition programme presents the museum's collection in an investigative way. In four episodes, both the fixed values and the 'quiet reserve' of the collection will be brought into dialogue with new and proposed acquisitions. The Episode #1 explores how contemporary artists deal with universal and timeless questions about the condition humaine, or human condition, starring Istvan Csakany, Mark Manders and Camille Henrot.

Beating Around the Bush is an exhibition programme for 2014, in which the Bonnefantenmuseum will be presenting its collection in an investigative way. In four episodes, both the fixed values and the 'quiet reserve' of the collection will be brought into dialogue with new and proposed acquisitions.

Beating Around the Bush Episode #1 explores how contemporary artists deal with universal and timeless questions about the condition humaine, or human condition; questions about the origin of things, as well as their loss or disappearance. How does art relate to visible reality, and what other realities are depicted? What personal mythologies do artists develop in their work, and what overlap is there with religion and mysticism?
