No. 250. An Exhibition
1978 to 2004. Basel to Beijing. The making of the unusual: a glimpse into
the famous architects' workshop and archives. With video sequences by Zilla
Leutenegger, Armin Linke and Ai Weiwei.
Scope of exhibition
A few hundred objects, sketches, drawings, samples, photographs etc.
An architecture exhibition that defies the norm. It does not show the architects' products but the creative process out of which the projects are developed. It does so by displaying the so-called by-products such as experiments with materials as well as models and drawings – the waste which, as Jacques Herzog says, is produced in the course of their work. ''These are silent and inanimate witnesses to the intellectual and group dynamic processes which we have repeatedly, and with our utmost energy, pushed on in varying constellations over many years. And in some cases buildings have actually risen out of these processes.''
Documents and objects from approx. 100 projects, over 1,000 samples of materials, prototypes, mock-ups, drawings, sketches for models, photographs, etc.
With video sequences by Zilla Leutenegger, Armin Linke and Ai Weiwei.
Concept
Theodora Vischer and Jacques Herzog
