comunicato stampa

emotionsmonitoring

Barbara Behan is pleased to present emotionsmonitoring, the first solo exhibition in London by Hans-Hermann. emotionsmonitoring comprises of two cycles of recent works born out of the artists' attempt to interpret Existence, focusing, above all, on it's destructive element. Reminiscent of Roman Opalka, Hans-Hermann's works reflect Life and Existence in their continuous state as demonstrated through an aesthetic of resistance. His restless and laborious physical discipline of scratching the surface of the support transcends him to a trance-like state in an attempt to reflect objectively on the world as he strives to reach a state of equilibrium. It is a metaphor for the fleeting passage of time and the futility of existence itself and above all the annihilation of the artist's ego.

Hans-Hermann was born in Cologne in 1952. He began his artistic journey in Germany in the 1970s alongside Joseph Beuys and other artists of the Fluxis movement. He moved to Imperia in 1983 where he has been living and working ever since and where he launched his renowned 'Vota Arte' initiative. 'Vota Arte', a manifesto that has traveled the art world, stands for a form of uncompromising art realized through an independent vision free of everyday logic. With respect to this point of view, the exhibition's title emotionsmonitoring is particularly poignant.

emotionsmonitoring is accompanied by a catalogue with a text by Angela Madesani.
