Ann Worthing Backyard
With inquisitive depictions of landscape fragments, Ann Worthing¹s Backyard
hones the viewer in from different vantage points. One is shown
perspectives from sections of various landscape settings. However, the
entire subject is not fully fleshed out. The viewer is given an upward
section of a treetop for example, or a ground view of shrubs as if one was
lying on their belly. This detaches the section from its setting,
emphasizing its presence even more. You¹re forced to zero in on a
particular area in the landscape diffusing the surrounding area - hence
making the setting unclear. Is it urban or rural? Does it even matter
where?
What¹s important is that Worthing wants the viewer to look‹really look and
reevaluate what one sees in the world. Additionally, Worthing wants one to
look for something more than what is represented. This is the metaphorical
idea in Backyard‹to search in a dialogue of reflection and contemplation.

Stephen Warde Anderson Aquatic Fantasies and Maritime Adventures
Drawn by the mysterious and evocative pull of the sea, Stephen Anderson¹s
recent work brings together the wild characters of aquatic life, along with
narrative tales of imaginary sea adventures. Anderson¹s subjects continue
to be rooted in a love for the dramatic and fantastic. Often inspired by old
pulp magazine covers and science fiction films, these paintings are created
entirely from his imagination. Each composition is a recombination of the
mythical monsters of the deep, warring ships, and flora and fauna residing
in his creative sub-conscious. Anderson¹s self-taught technique of textured
surfaces and bold colors key up the fabulous mermaids and anthropomorphic
plant life he depicts. The vision of this water world is earnest in its
impossibility and heartfelt in its playful and detailed storytelling.
