ALEJANDRO VIDAL

Alejandro Vidal has been investigating these past years about the aesthetics that are prior to violence and the entire social, political and economic new panorama.
Dealing with these issues in different media like video, photography, drawing or installation, Vidal has approach these analysis in an intricate and complex way.
He brings together references from activism, early rave period, 80’s cult movies, manuals of self-defence, punk nihilism and so on creating a very personal imagery that in a subtle way arrange new signs and codes. This is a wicked exercise that points out the failure of a system that claims to be infallible.

For this exhibition at the Salon programme of the Museum of Contemporary Art Vidal will present a selection of his recent series of photographs and a large video projection with ‘Gunshots for all the Devils’. The images presented are the result of an investigation Vidal is undertaking about self-defence manuals, martial arts, and the analysis of the state of repressed aggression in which most city dwellers live.

Alejandro Vidal (Palma de Mallorca. 1972) lives and works in Barcelona. He is one of the most renowned and most controversial Spanish young contemporary artists. His work has been shown extensively in solo and group exhibitions in Europe. Recent group exhibitions include Contested Space in Italy or Exploraciones in Barcelona. Most recently he has had solo exhibitions at Artra in Milano and Adn in Barcelona.
