Death Rock City
Drawings and Structures

Priska C. Juschka Fine Art is pleased to present Death Rock City: Drawings and Structures, a solo exhibition of work by Dannielle Tegeder. In this exhibition, in addition to her new intricate drawings, Tegeder ventures for the first time into the realm of three-dimensional work, creating a monumental and breathtaking representation of her concept of an urban utopia.

Inspired primarily by architectural blueprints and technological sketches, Tegeder creates seemingly abstract environments composed of interconnected recurrent forms, each representing a specific function in fantastical landscapes, such as tunnels, housing and shelters.
Regardless of the intrinsic diagrammatic composition and the interchangeable viewpoint, ones eye inevitably follows the stream of lines and forms juxtaposed amid the many layers, thus uncovering the inner- logic of these underground systems.

Tegeder's process is intuitive and uninhibited, as she draws inspiration from historical monuments and architects of diverse styles, including Zaha Hadid, Paulo Solari and the late work of Frank Lloyd Wright. Using materials such as ink, enamel, acrylic, gouache and pencil, she then translates and incorporates these sources into landscapes of refuge that are at once devoid of human presence and an invitation for one to explore and experience.

The structures Tegeder has created mimic her drawings in form, motifs and composition, though introduce elements of tangibility and texture through the mirrored platform and the various sensual materials. The multiple shades and materials that compose the objects balance the restricted palette of the drawings that is limited to black, white and accents of yellow. This invokes a conceptual approach, further distinguishing these landscapes from actuality, and granting the viewers the freedom to drift spontaneously above and within this intricate city unfolding before them.

Dannielle Tegeder received her MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and presently lives and works in New York. She has had several solo exhibitions in the US and internationally, and has participated in numerous group exhibitions in major institutions, such as PS1/MoMA, The New Museum, The Brooklyn Museum of Art and Artists Space. She has been the recipient of many residencies and grants, including The Pollock- Krasner Foundation, The Fulbright Scholar Grant and the Marie Walsh Sharpe Studio Fellowship.
