An exhibition by Liam Gillick and Philippe Parreno. The relation between law and creativity is often understood as antagonistic. To be creative seems almost inevitably to involve the transgression of some rule of one kind or another. For art to break with an aesthetic convention, to violate a moral code or to infringe on juridical law is often conceived as the eternal struggle of creativity against the oppressiveness of the law. In connection to the interdisciplinary, Third Space Seminar: Examining the
Law, a collaborative project involving the universities of Lund and Malmo,
Lund Konsthall is delighted to be able to present the exhibition (rider):
law & creativity by Liam Gillick and Philippe Parreno. The relation
between law and creativity is often understood as antagonistic. To be
creative seems almost inevitably to involve the transgression of some rule
of one kind or another. For art to break with an aesthetic convention, to
violate a moral code or to infringe on juridical law is often conceived as
the eternal struggle of creativity against the oppressiveness of the law.
In response to the invitation to think about the implications of this
project the artists will show the newly produced film Briannnnnn and
Ferryyyyyy, a cartoon series in ten episodes using the two key characters
from any cartoon series: the cat and the mouse. A number of advisors have
been invited to suggest cultural issues that ought to be considered when
producing this film and their suggestions have been absorbed by the
artists and incorporated into the credit sequence for each episode.
We wish you welcome!
Opening 26 November 5-8 pm
