An ink drawings exhibition by Yeo Shih Yun and Kathleen J. Li opens at new art space instinc

Singapore (27 Nov 2004) – ‘INK Interpretations 2005’ – an ink drawings by local artist Yeo Shih Yun and San Francisco artist Kathleen J. Li will open at the new art space instinc, located at 271C New Bridge Road, from 14 Jan 2005 to 2 Feb 2005.

INK Interpretations 2005 - Chinese ink painting refers constantly to the past. The challenge for artists working with inks, today, is to offer new possibilities, new interpretations, that demonstrate a contemporary vocabulary.

People from different parts of the world are often separated by differences in culture, language and experiences, but what happens when two artists, one from San Francisco and the other from Singapore, of similar heritages but separated by different countries, come together to share their visual language? Each carrying their own landscape of memory and experiences, come together to share interpretations of their lives and the world they exist in.

In this exhibition, the two artists will be showing works on paper, with ink as the main medium from each of their individual series. Prior to the opening of INK Interpretations 2005, Kathleen and Shih Yun will be engaged in a collaborative project where they will both paint together with ink on paper. Some of these collaborative works will be on display as well. There will be a total of about 17 ink drawings on display at this exhibition.

INK Interpretations 2005 by Yeo Shih Yun and Kathleen J. Li will be exhibited at instinc at 271C New Bridge Road (Chinatown) from 14 Jan 2005 to 2 Feb 2005. For gallery information, please call 6536 1739.
