comunicato stampa

White Box is pleased to present the first New York solo of Marcos Lopez. Mr. Lopez began his career in the late 1980s and after receiving the Andy Goldstein Foundation's First Prize in 1992, his work quickly gained international acclaim with an increasing number of young and experienced collectors as well as museum and photography collections from around the world each year.

Over the past decade Mr. Lopez has created a remarkable body of photographic works in which he mixes and juxtaposes a unique inventory of incisive and highly critical topics. In his works Mr. Lopez negotiates many layers of the conflicting realities anyone living in the Southern Hemisphere of the Americas. He has himself best described some of the aspects of the multiple and overlapping realities in "Caracas Manifesto" by stating "invisible traces left by dictatorship the secret is to be silent, look North, toward immense America, and decode what the wind tells you."

This exhibition has received generous support from KBK Arte Contemporaneo, Mexico. A full color catalogue with a text by Anne Wilkes Tucker, Curator of Photography at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, will be available.

Opening Reception: Thursday, March 3, 2005 6-8 p.m.
VIP Armory Tour Cocktail Reception: Friday March 11, 2005, 6-8 p.m.
