SITE-SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE SUMMER SERIES SITELINES 2005 6 CHOREOGRAPHERS, 15 LOCATIONS, 52 PERFORMANCES
"It's encouraging to see the depth and complexity of the Sitelines project... Radically different in structure and style, these site-specific dances bring New Yorkers downtown to look at landmarks in a whole new way."
-- Elizabeth Zimmer, Village Voice, August 11, 2004

Sitelines 2005 ushers in the NYC summer with over 50 free site-specific performances by prominent choreographers and performers in a variety of untraditional performance spaces downtown. Public intersections, atria, retail, park and historic sites become pseudo stages for cutting edge productions. Sitelines performances are intended to enliven Downtown s urban landscape, and surprise and delight passing workers and residents of Lower Manhattan from May to August.

LMCC launched its innovative site-specific performance series in summer 2004 with twelve locations downtown, presenting the work of leading choreographers for the public to encounter. This year, Sitelines presents six artists working in dance, theater and poetry performance in over 50 performances all around Lower Manhattan. Sites include the bike paths on the lower East and West sides, inside a public fountain in Bowling Green, on cobblestone streets, Wagner Park, Rockefeller Park and the rotunda at the National Museum of the American Indian. The 2005 Sitelines artists are Monica Bill Barnes, Chris Elam, Tom Pearson, Liz Sargent, Mary Seidman, and Cecilia Vicuna.

SITELINES SCHEDULE:
Returning by Liz Sargent
May 12-14, 19-21.
Thursday-Friday 5:30pm and 7:30pm, Saturday 7:30pm
Site: 15 Nassau Street (between Cedar and Pine Streets)
This new theatre installation was specifically created for the 14,000 square foot space at 15 Nassau Street. Accompanied by live music, the performance will immerse the audience in a sequence of absurd images and follow a cyclical pattern that reveal lives of static futility.

Bridges by Mary Seidman
June 2-4. 12pm-2pm
Sites: Stone & Mill Streets to South Street Seaport Beekman Street to Peck Slip on the East River
Ten dancers will wind their way around the cobblestone streets of Lower Manhattan, creating a series of arches and bridges that continuously connect, fall apart, and rebuild, sending a peaceful message of human connection to the city.

Freewheeling by Mary Seidman
June 11, 12, 18, 19. 12:30pm-2pm
Bike paths from Canal Street on the East Side to West Side by the Boathouse. Performances at designated stops along the path. For performance locations, see http://www.lmcc.net/EventsandExhibitions/sitelines
Twenty professional bikers will travel around the lower tip of Manhattan, stopping at seven destinations to perform an intricate five-minute dance and to recreate music composed for the project by David Homan. The music and movement reflects both the synchronization and the dissonance that naturally occurs throughout the city.

Limelight by Monica Bill Barnes
June 27-July 1 12:30pm-1:30pm
Site: Public fountain in the Bowling Green public Park (Broadway and Beaver Street)
This large-scale dance extravaganza includes a bizarre synchronized swimming routine enacted in the shallow pool of a public fountain. The dancers will perform as an outrageous back-up group with shameless enthusiasm in a show where the headliner never appears.

Reel by Tom Pearson
July 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16. 2pm with additional Thursday performances at 6.30pm
Site: Rotunda of the National Museum of the American Indian, 1 Bowling Green
This performance will explore the ideas of dominance which are inherently bricked into the architecture of the old US Customs House Rotunda. Within a world of shifting power, the performers dive into their own questions of inheritance, and through movement both furious and nuanced, they incrementally reveal the seeds of reconciliation. Live music by the Heyna Second Son singers

Peripheral City by Red Dive
July 7, 14, August 11, 18 12pm, 1pm, 2pm
Tour begins at Chase Manhattan Plaza (between Liberty, William, Pine and Nassau Streets)
Excavating New York s many hidden historical, cultural, and human values, Red Dive will lead an urban expedition that will carve a distinct path across the Lower Manhattan district. Led by guides in orange construction jumpsuits, these walking performance tours reveal personal stories, unusual historical facts, and public art along the route.

Several Stories by Chris Elam/Misnomer Dance Theatre
August 9; 12:30pm and 1:30pm August 11; 5:30pm and 6:30pm
Site: Robert Wagner Park off Battery Place [Additional site to be announced]
Merging modern dance with humorous theatre and lots of climbing, twisting, and leaping, Misnomer Dance Theatre presents an entertaining and intimate combination of human tales translated by the body. The piece draws on choreographer Chris Elam s rich travels and dance research in Cuba, Turkey, Indonesia, and Brazil.

Red Coil by Cecilia Vicuna (Co-presented by The Poets House)
August 22 and 25. 7pm Site: The Pavilion in Rockefeller Park (Warren Street & River Terrace) [Additional site to be announced]
An internationally acclaimed poet and performance artist weaves time, space, and sound to evoke ancient sensory memories. Through playful improvisations, stories and chants, she leads her audiences into a communal space where poetry unfolds. Flautist Jane Rigler collaborates with live music.
