Peter Callas

Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne

"Initialising History", three component exhibition of Australian and international video art centring around and curated by renowned Australian electronic media artist Peter Callas. The three programs each represent significant collections of electronic artworks which have rarely been seen in Australia. They comprise Initialising History, a full career retrospective of Peter Callas's influential work: Displacements, videomakers and issues of place; and An Eccentric Orbit, a collection of video art in Australia. The world-wide regard for Peter Callas as both artist and curator, and the excellence of his own work and that of the works contained in the two compilations, will stimulate and reflect the rapidly growing interest in digital media. These programs will be presented at ACCA as a combination of continuously running tapes and scheduled screenings.
