'Installation' toured for over a year, visiting a dozen independent galleries and collecting additional artwork along the way. The project brought together a truly unique mix of artists and graphic designers. The goal of the tour is to get these artists and their work as much visibility and exposure as possible, and to promote them ahead of the brand and the cars.

Scion is proud to sponsor the INSTALLATION tour, and
especially proud of the artist for all their
creative work. Andy Howell, Blaine Fontana, Books,
Buff Monster, Casper, Chase, Crash, David Choe,
Daze, Eklips, Eyeone, Freddi C, Fuse Green, Gary
Garay, Haze, How, Joshua Mays, Justin Hampton,
Kenton Parker, KEO, Kofie, Krush, Marka 27, Mear,
Michael Delahaut, Nosm, Persue, Retna, Revok,
Revolt, Saber, Sam Flores, Sever, Stay High 149,
Stephen Donovan, Swank, Tim McCormick and Voice
In 2003 Scion launched INSTALLATION, a revolutionary
art tour featuring paintings and sculptures created
by an unprecedented collective of urban artists.
INSTALLATION toured for over a year, visiting a
dozen independent galleries and collecting
additional artwork along the way at Scion sponsored
events and trade shows.
INSTALLATION brought together a truly unique mix of
artists and graphic designers. The goal of the
INSTALLATION tour was to get these artists and their
work as much visibility and exposure as possible,
and to promote them ahead of the brand and the cars.
Scion has since enlisted many of the artists to work
with the company on other projects. Swank, Dez
Einswell, and Saber designed flyers, posters, and
t-shirts; David Choe created a cartoon for the Scion
Magazine; Mister Cartoon customized a Scion project
car. The artists and their phenomenal artwork
contributed to the credibility of Scion's image, and
in the end all of the profits from the sale of the
art went to three special non-profit youth
organizations: The HeArt project, Northwest Youth
Corps, and the Nikao Youth Project.
Building on the phenomenal success of the first
tour, INSTALLATION 2004/2005 will expand into new
cities, cultivating new artists from around the
country. While the last year's art was painted
directly onto Scion xA sculptures and xB vehicles,
this year's art will be done on three by eight foot
boards. Widely recognized artists like Mear, Andy
Howell, Crash, haze, Revok, Saber, David Choe,
Revolt, Stay High 149 and more have already
contributed their talent, and other artists will be
painting live at Scion sponsored events throughout
the year, expanding the collection as it travels
across the country. Once again the aim of Scion's
INSTALLATION will be to foreground the artists and
promote the integrity of the art. To do so, Scion
will bring INSTALLATION 2004/2005 to new galleries
eventually culminating in a live auction in Los
Angeles, CA with the proceeds benefiting non-profit
youth organizations.
About McCaig-Welles
McCaig-Welles Gallery opened March 3, 2001 at
Havemeyer and S. 2nd Street, and moved to its
current Williamsburg location at 129 Roebling Street
in September of 2003. It is an artist-run gallery
emphasizing urban and street art, showing mid-career
and well known artists including NYC Lase, Shepard
Fairey, Futura, The Tats Cru, Seen, Quik, Ewok, Dalek,
Doze, and Martha Cooper. McCaig-Welles is a member
of The Williamsburg Gallery Association and was
cited for "Best Graffiti Art" in "The Best of
Manhattan" issue of The New York Press. Recent
reviews and articles have been featured in
The New York Press, AM NY, The Village Voice, The
Wooster Collective, The Columbia Spectator, Paper
Magazine and others.
