Works Show '1990-2005'

"Habitants from the past on the present on this earth could be replaced by new organisms, and this all depends on human beings, whether humans has such aspirations, I wish revaluate our status among beings, to accept idea that all living things are equal value and should live in great harmony."--Li Shan

Li Shan born 1943, he started working in 1998, when in New York, on his series of hybrid human beings half butterflies, half fishes. Since then, he has been considering the limits of experimentation on human beings in his works. He has recently decided to express himself through digital compositions.

Although his pieces do not take place in everyday's life, the artist has found an original and unique way to deal with this issue.

Lishan was one of the first in China to elaborate a reflexion on genetics and to dedicate his work to the problematic of the evolution of the human specie.

This time, we will show around 40 pcs paintings of Li Shan, most of them is finished in last decade.

In their 40's - works by Chinese artists born shortly before the Cultural Revolution
(Zhou tiehai, Zhang Enli, Xue Song, Hu Jieming, Shi Yong, Ding Yi)
June 1 - July 15, 2005

Artist born just before the beginning of the Cultural Revolution (1966-67) are an unique group. Many of the best paintings done today in China are created by artists of this generation. Trained in strict art accademies of the late 70's/80's, they started to experiment with the possibilities of new art in Deng Xiaoping's new China. In fifteen and more years of artistic experience, each of this artist developed his own individual stile and artistic position.
While artists from all over China will be included, this exhibition will be centred around artist living and working Shanghai, a city which seems to fosters especially well this kind of innovation and artistic individuality.
