Off the Coast of America

Long Beach artist and teacher Ann Bridges was selected to receive a Fellowship from the Surdna Arts Teachers Fellowship Program in May 2005 and used the funds to create a body of work that is a continuation of her interest in that natural landscape of Southern California.

The 17 Paintings that comprise the exhibit were painted on site at the Islands of Anacapa Catalina, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa islands.

The artist brings an expressionistic, contemporary flair to her work, which remains solidly connected to the California Plein Air tradition. She holds a Master’s degree in Painting from California State University, Long Beach, and is a highly regarded painting instructor at the Orange County High School of the Arts.
