International Contemporary Art Fair. A total of 250 Spanish and international galleries have been selected, based on the quality of their programmes, the projection of their artists and the promotional and professional work which the galleries carry out. The International Contemporary Art Fair, together with its Organising Committee, has decided to invite Britain to be the Special Guest Country in 2001.

comunicato stampa

ARCO has already produced the official programme of galleries which will participate at its twentieth edition. Two intense days of work, in strict observance of both ARCO regulations and objective evaluation criteria and participation quotas, have led the ARCO Organizing Committee to complete the selection of art participants and features at the 20th edition of the International Contemporary Art Fair. A total of 250 Spanish and international galleries have been selected, based on the quality of their programmes, the projection of their artists and the promotional and professional work which the galleries carry out.

UK at ARCO 2001

The International Contemporary Art Fair, together with its Organising Committee, has decided to invite Britain to be the Special Guest Country in 2001. As at previous editions of the programme, UK at ARCO 2001 will present an excellent opportunity to document, from the curators' particular perspectives, the impact of Brit art on the international scene, analysing its contribution to contemporary art trends, all based on a tour of some of the most significant movements in the country. The highlight will be the very latest pieces, in the Project Rooms section: site-specific installations created especially for ARCO.

UK at ARCO 2001 will be organised into three different areas: a gallery show selected by a team of curators, a series of Panel Discussions featuring the participation of leading critics, collectors, and other personalities from the British scene, and a programme of parallel exhibitions to be presented at different cultural centres all over Spain.

The star of the show will be the UK at ARCO Pavilion, co-directed by three of the country's most prestigious young critics and curators, Charles Esche, Matthew Higgs, and Kim Sweet, who will select approximately 20 galleries, offering a panorama of the British art scene over the last five decades, with everything from Modern Masters to emerging art. The pavilion will feature three different areas: established galleries, cutting-edge galleries, and Project Rooms.

The Panel Discussion programme will centre on art and collecting in Britain, with the participation of leading figures on the British art scene, as well as renowned collectors.

Lastly, the UK at ARCO 2001 programme will feature a Photography Forum, co-ordinated by Kate Bush (UK) with Rafael Doctor (Spain) and Agnés de Gouvion Sant-Cyr (France), as well as a Net-Art Forum organised by Katerine Van Esche (France), presenting the work and experiences of artists and theorists working in that field.
