Chinese women artists work within the traditionally male
dominated confines of the Chinese art world. Whether
traditional or avant-garde modern art, China has produced
its share of world-class talents, with their artworks being
well-recognized and exhibited throughout the world. The
absence of many Chinese women artists among the
recognized Chinese talents is all the more noticeable.
Like their European and Western counterparts of the past,
female Chinese artists are facing sexually-dividing political,
social and economic factors, which not only constrain their
creativity and output, but also can deter them from
pursuing art as a career in the first place. With China's
increasing openness, more and more Chinese women artists
have begun their struggle to produce and be recognized for
high-quality artworks. To help with redressing the
imbalance, Art Scene China's all female show, entitled '4
Chinese Women Artists' Show,' aims to give exposure to the
creativity and merit of the four Chinese women artists
involved. Each of these artists is dedicated to presenting
accurate accounts of the lives, passion and desire of
women, which they do admirably from their perspectives as
both women and artists.
