Davide Bertocchi is an Italian artist born in 1969 in Modena. His solo show at Nuke gallery presents a group of sculptural artworks referring to the music world, which nourishes the artist’s imaginary. He borrows the formal and aesthetic vocabulary of the sound medium (vinyl records, cds, mp3) and its broadcast (disc player, speakers, subwoofer), introducing a work, which makes a monument out of Music and the objects related to it. For the series Memorials (2006), the artist has selected some of his favourite music extracts and has engraved their titles on 33 rpm marble records, as a statement. This process of selection, introducing the idea of an aesthetic choice is also found in the work entitled Easy Everyday. (2006). It is made as a whole professional sound system in which each separate piece is enclosed in a Carrara marble box. It is the viewer who activates the system by choosing one song among a hundred cds, and listening to it with the sound level set by the artist. The music spreads into the gallery and even outside.

This << free service >> music is the new project of Davide Bertocchi, entitled TOP 100 Vol.2 (2005), which follows the TOP 100 Vol.1 (2004) proposes an ideal play list according to the choices of one hundred figures of the art world invited by the artist to gather their one most favourite musical extracts into one compilation. Published as multiples thanks to the support of the Dena Foundation for Contemporary Art (Paris), Radiodays / De Appel (Amsterdam), and the Paolo Boselli gallery (Brussels), the TOP 100 vol.2 Cd (Mp3) will be released for its premiere at Nuke gallery, while a limited series of posters (designed by Martin Pyper) will be inserted in Nuke Magazine #3 (released in May 2006).
