Luminas: Recent Photoworks
Bay Area artist, Keira Kotler, will present Luminas: Recent Photoworks, her first
exhibition with Brian Gross Fine Art, in the lobby gallery at One Post Street, San
Francisco, beginning April 1.
The exhibition is comprised of 13 photographic light jet prints mounted on aluminum.
The panels are titled after radiant colors: Chartreuse, Orange, Tangerine, Scarlet,
and Burgundy. Kotler captures everyday objects and phenomena, such as cars, signs,
cityscapes, and sky and transforms them into luscious, abstract color compositions.
Kotler's aim is to provoke the viewer to pause, to slow the movement of the
outside world, allowing for internal space and possibility. Her minimal
colorscapes capture the beauty inherent in common objects and everyday surroundings.
The artist states that her work is informed by the beauty of color and the
arresting purity it possesses when separated from form and context. By abstracting
natural occurrences into subliminal fields, moments that often go unnoticed are
amplified and create portals to subconscious unveiling.
Kotler received her undergraduate education at Barnard College and is a 2006
candidate in the MFA Painting program at the San Francisco Art Institute. Kotler
lives and works in Mill Valley, CA.
