installation artist
and
photographer
Shirin Neshat
now lives and
works in New
York, but was
born in Qazvin,
Iran. She is
known for her
compelling,
large,
black-and-white
photographs and video projection installations that dramatically
reimagine Iranian culture. Neshat’s Turbulent (1998) won the First
International Prize in last year’s Venice Biennale, and the banner
she created for MoMA’s facade as part of Projects 70 can be seen
through May 1
