Hallucinating Love takes its title from an unreleased song by the eighties band Duran Duran. In the exhibition, Karen Carpenter's sentimental hit 'Close To You' is the basis for Double Karen, part 1 of Double Duets, a video by Candice Breitz; in the same room Berlin-based Christian Flamm's papercuts made of coloured cardboard recall record covers.
Three artists have had solo exhibitions at asprey jacques this year: New York-based Pamela Fraser is represented by Adventure, a 'mysterious forensic painting', Graham Little by a coloured pencil drawing inspired by glossy fashion magazines, and Costa Vece by Belles du Jour, an installation consisting of sweet wrappings and light bulbs.
Two Italian artists who were included in the Pandaemonium programme at the Lux Centre in March are showing videos: Sarah Ciraci's Rapimenti (Raptures) reveal architectural abductions in process and Diego Perrone's I Verdi Giorni (The Green Days) is a cartoon animation of children fighting. Cartoon aesthetic also pervades British artist Matthew Franks' pastel pink styrofoam sculpture entitled Runt. This piece stands at the entrance of the gallery, introducin Hallucinating Love through an atomic cloud, while Henrik Plenge Jakobsen's wall painting, which defiantly states Everything is Wrong within a hypnotizing target on the far wall in the back room, gives the final touch.
