Room for Though is a unique opportunity to explore the work-in-progress of the Italian artist, curator and gallerist Roberto Annecchini.
Roberto Annecchini's versatile and yet
consistent practice has brought together a
number of artists from different corners of
the world with the aim to "inhabit the
distance" ("Abitare la distanza" is the title
of his provisional and adjustable
installation). From December 1996 to July
2000, his gallery, Change - Studio d'Arte
Contemporanea has been a distinctive
independent art space in Rome as well as an
exceptional laboratory to experiment an
on-going dialogue amongst contemporary
international practices.
This 5-day event includes an installation by
Roberto Annecchini in the series "Abitare la
distanza" and a conversation between
Roberto Annecchini and the curator Irene
Amore documenting the activities of Change
in a new format, with text-based
installations and projections incorporating
archive materials.
The artist and the curator will be present on
Friday 7th and Saturday 8th to discuss
issues raised by the exhibition. On Sunday
9th September, at 3pm, the curator will give
a talk, followed by a special reading given by
the artist and Rebecca R. Rosewarne.
Roberto Annecchini participated in Rome in
"Arte a Roma 1980-90: nuove situazioni ed
emergenze", curated by L. Pratesi in 1989,
and in "'60-'90 Trent'anni di Avanguardie
romane: cinque nuovi romani", curated by E.
Crispolti in 1991. He also exhibited in solo
shows at Galleria La Nuova Pesa in 1990-1,
and at Galerie Schütz in Frankfurt in 1998.
For his gallery Change he curated and
co-curated an extensive number of solo and
group shows involving Italian as well as
international artists such as Neal Beggs,
Jacopo Benci, Urs Breitenstein, Samantha
Clark, Kate Davis, Josef Dabernig, Regina
Hübner, Luca Patella, Christiana Protto,
Terry Smith, Antonio Tamilia, Alberto
Zanazzo. He was also part of the "Progetto
Oreste" at the XX Venice Biennale in 1999.
He is now preparing a programme of
collaborative events and exhibitions in his
new studio in Rome.
Irene Amore is a writer and an independent
curator presently based in London.
She is presently setting up an organisation
called "Alfabeta" with the aim to initiate
cultural and artistic dialogues as well as a
programme of exhibitions/events in
collaboration with international agencies.
