comunicato stampa

A discussion event between Span2 artists and the public.

Where do artists' ideas come from? How are these ideas made manifest? What processes, normally unseen by the public, lie behind the work? How might place and audience influence this process? How much do artists themselves consider the role of process in their work? Artists involved in Span2 are each developing live, necessarily temporary, artworks over a period of one week in the architecturally and historically remarkable space of Dilston Grove (formerly Clare College Mission Church) right in the heart of Bermondsey.

The Talking Process event gives artists-in residence the opportunity to make presentations and show documentation reflecting on the role of process in their work overall and more specifically on the evolution of their work in the church. The curators of Span2 will chair these discussions with an emphasis upon dialogue between the artists and the public. There is also an opportunity to contribute to the discussion via our online forums.

At the third weekly symposium, Span2 will proudly and exclusively host the UK launch of 'Art Action 1958-98': a sure to be seminal publication from Inter/Le Lieu of Quebec. We will take this opportunity to discuss how historicization particularly affects the importance of process in performance art over its objects, documents and relics.
