Exposition of Sculpture Objects & Functional Art: SOFA
CHICAGO 2001 returns for the 8th year to Chicago’s
historic Navy Pier, October 5-7. To accommodate the
large number of visitors, this year’s exposition will debut
an expanded floor plan with larger aisles and plaza-like
open areas with seating. SOFA CHICAGO and its sister
show, SOFA NEW YORK, are the finest international
expositions dedicated to bridging the worlds of
contemporary decorative and fine art. Eighty-eight select
international art dealers at SOFA CHICAGO 2001 will
exhibit the innovative work of major artists and stylistic
movements in the decorative and fine arts, from the
second half of the twentieth century up to the present.
Now in its eighth year, SOFA CHICAGO has reached full
maturity as an artistic and commercial success, evolving
into an international gathering place for major collector
and museum groups, architects and designers, art
connoisseurs and adventuresome visitors. Over 30,000
attended last year’s exposition and 2700 enjoyed the
critically acclaimed Lecture Series, free to SOFA
attendees. Sales of artwork at SOFA CHICAGO average
$20 million dollars per show with residual sales–more
than tripling since its inception in 1994. Sales at SOFA
NEW YORK, with its more intimate venue, the Seventh
Regiment Armory that accommodates approximately 50
galleries and dealers, average $10 million annually with
residual sales.
