September 13, 2007 is the first anniversary of Bastart Gallery. It will be celebrated by the exhibition of artists who started their art work in the 90`s.

With respect to mature artistic personalities, an author of a conception Petra Feriancová, asked selected artists to present „for them “ or „their“ (own) „essential“ works. Essence is understood as a basis, a principle, inevitability. It is a primary reason for the existance of an art work. Essence is definitely present in the phase that precedes the final face of a work. Therefore selection of works comprises also studying materials, preliminary sketches (even for never realised projects), works which have been adopted, having reference to relations. Especially the latter are the part of the project “ Thing of mine that may not be mine“ that solves function/use of a work.

The exhibition presents also marginal works, that represent less typical outputs of participating artists. They are also displayed in relation to their ability to serve their author or a beholder, what might not be compliant. In a current space situation paper becomes a formal link. Paper as a principle. Everything can start again with paper. Because: paper can put up with many things, either as a fundus for visual or information, paper is brief, paper as an easily replaceable base raises minimal respect in a creator, that`s why the best works are created on its surface, paper is authentic - it can be misplaced, forgotten, relocated. Paper as an information medium is still less interesting, it is because of its un-virtuality - (it must be stored or thrown away) but also its legal existance - a document. Paper is dangerous and precious. Paper is perfect for archiving and has a permanent colour.

The exhibition in Bastart Gallery, looking back at the previous year, is a museum-like. It displays documentary, period material, among others a complete chronological presentation of Park magazine. It was issued in the 90`s by Filip Vančo and his wife Kamila. Park magazine uses paper but I don`t know anybody who would not store it or would throw it away. The exhibition involves also a sketch book, made up of paper waste by Cyril Blažo, which was issued by Park magazine, paper napkins (disappearing in a rubbish), with pictures by Ivan Csudai, Denisa Lehotská, Emil Drličiak, Laco Teren etc. Except from the above mentioned , also Paľo Balik, Jana Beňova, Boris Ondreička, Jano Šebík co-operated on Park magazine.

Works by Boris Ondreička, executed on luxurious paper, are generous in a way how they despise their base. Drawings, paper itself, create a series - some of them are attractive designs of something that is impossible to imagine in its final appearance; others comprise traces of words pressed onto paper by a ballpoint, texts, order, destruction, boredom, impulse, or old drawings using a marker on a tracing paper as a base. Bastart Gallery issues texts by Boris Ondreička.

They can be purchased for the price of outlay in the gallery during the exhibition. Paper Works by Denisa Lehocká communicate in private, perfect language, despite their sophistication they seem to have a close relation to archetypal diaries. The exhibition presents other works on paper: collages by Cyril Blažo. There are also works about paper: object - destructed one million Slovak crowns by XYZ group or a video Eva that was created by Tomáš Vaněk in co-operation with Zbyněk Baladran. Baladrán, respecting sufficiency of meaning of „particip“, added time, movement and essence - paper.
