Melbourne Festival projects -Humid Stacked Hotel

ACCA is hosting two major Melbourne Festival installations, with leading international artists presenting a number of projects that have been developed specifically for Melbourne.

HUMID - an international exhibition that explores the feminine sublime, featuring works by artists Tacita Dean, Kate Daw, Ann Hamilton, AK Dolven, Pipilotti Rist, Mariele Neudecker, Christine Borland, Clara Ursitti and Nina Saunders.

HUMID - as an attitude rather than a weather condition - refers to the sometimes petulant, sultry, even sexy, feminine unconscious and its physical manifestations. Humid is hot, sweaty, oppressive, uncomfortable, but also languid, sensual and tropical. Humid is a state of mind, a state of being. Pleasure and danger, passion and petulance collide as Humid evokes the seductive and potentially destructive power of femininity.

Emerging British artists Adam Dade and Sonya Hanney will create Stacked Hotel, a video and sculptural installation using the entire contents of a hotel room.

Under the stealth of night and behind closed doors, Sonya and Adam dismantle the contents of a hotel room and stack them into a sculptural form. Having captured the process on video, the artists return the fittings to their original position. Hanney and Dade's works deal with impromptu sculptural solutions and comment upon the need to reorganise space into new comfort zones.

ACCA's purpose is to stimulate, identify, articulate new ideas about current visual culture and to position itself as one of Australia's key contemporary art organisations. ACCA acts as a site of exploration and discovery where artists, their work and the public meet.
