Painting Generation

Kagan Martos Gallery, New York

comunicato stampa

Kagan Martos Gallery is pleased to announce a group exhibition titled "Painting Generation."
"Painting Generation" will include the work of the following artists: Francis Picabia, Yves Tanguy, Alfred Leslie, Cy Twombly, Jo Baer, Ross Bleckner, Amy Sillman and Randy Wray. The works trace a visual lineage of abstraction from 1920 to the year 2000 highlighting one seminal artist from each generation. The Picabia from 1920 is an unusual abstract work done on the reverse side of a Paris gallery invitation. Tanguy's untitled gouache from 1946 presents a beautiful anthropomorphic composition. In sharp contrast, an Alfred Leslie painting from 1951 shows how Abstract Expressionism affected surface and texture. The untitle work from 1962 by Cy Twombly is a virtuosic example of Twombly's automatic drawing with red crayon and pencil. Jo Baer's works from the late 1970s provide a unique voice of Minimalist artists working on canvas. The early Bleckner from 1981 is a large stripe painting with Bleckner's signature optical effects and atmosphere. From the mid-1990s, Amy Sillman combines fields of vibrant color with elements of abstract illustration. Currently, Randy Wray is one of the new voices making intricately detailed paintings which move between a macro and micro visual landscape.
