Bring a friend and celebrate the art of collaboration through the practice of Enso painting. Enso is a Japanese word meaning "circle symbol". As one of the most prevalant themes in Zen calligraphy, Enso symbolizes enlightenment, strength and the universe, and is an expression of the moment.

Traditionally painted with black sumi ink, Enso was revolutionized by calligraphy artist Kazuaki Tanahashi who was the first to bring color to the artform. He is noted for his “Circle of All Nations” banner created for the United Nations 50th Anniversary which was on view at the San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center in 1995. Join Tanahashi Sensei and Minnette Mangahas in a group-led workshop on the practice of Enso painting and the art of collaboration. A question and answer session will follow.
