comunicato stampa

The Hispanic Society of America is the largest and most important collection of Spanish and Latin American art in the United States and second only to the holdings of the Spanish national museums. The collection is housed in the magnificent marble buildings opened in 1905 by founder Archer Huntington (1870-1955), heir to the transcontinental railroad fortune, at Audubon Plaza (155th Street and Broadway) in New York City.

With over 500,000 items, the Hispanic Society of America provides an unparalleled resource for the study and appreciation of Spanish art and culture. In 2008, the great series of newly restored murals celebrating the provinces of Spain, commissioned by Archer Huntington directly from Sorolla in 1922 for the museum’s library, will visit five cities in Spain culminating its tour at the Prado Museum, Madrid.

Dr. Mezzatesta noted: “I am proud that the Palm Beach Fair is hosting the Hispanic Society of America and honored to have the opportunity to present selections from its distinguished collections to the Florida public. I hope that this show will generate many more visitors to the museum and increased support for what is one of the Americas’ most remarkable cultural resources.” DMG World Media
