Donald Judd

Tina Kim Gallery, New York

Late Works. The sculptures in this exhibition, executed in the last decade of Judd's life, vary in form but all exemplify his commitment to certain aesthetic ideals as developed over a long, productive career. Highlights from the show include a radiant red stack that makes use of both aluminum & Plexiglas; a Swiss box that deftly interweaves pure blue and pure white.

comunicato stampa

Tina Kim Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of late works by the seminal Minimalist artist Donald Judd (1928 – 1994). The sculptures in this exhibition, executed in the last decade of Judd's life, vary in form but all exemplify his commitment to certain aesthetic ideals as developed over a long, productive career.

"Material, space, and color are the main aspects of visual art", Judd wrote in 1993, only months before his death. His last years were spent probing the specificities of each of these elements and achieving an ideal synthesis between them. As a result, Judd's late works embody this idea of the Gesamtkunstwerk, or the autonomously complete work of art.

Highlights from the exhibition include a radiant red stack that makes use of both aluminum & Plexiglas; a Swiss box that deftly interweaves pure blue and pure white; and a shimmering purple bullnose – all of which can be seen as apotheoses of forms Judd revisited frequently.
